Biographies of Gress Aerospace Personnel
Gary Gress - Director, R & D Gary holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto and a
scholarship from the Ontario College of Art and Design. He has over 5 years experience as an Advanced Performance
Analyst with Pratt & Whitney Canada optimizing new turbofan engine designs, and 18 years a New Product
Development Engineer. His unique implementation of architecturally- and environmentally-friendly lighting has
illuminated the sidewalks across Toronto for more than twenty years and is still in volume production. He has published
papers and articles on torque-actuated variable diameter propellers (in the CASI Journal) and VTOL air vehicle stability
and control (in AIAA and AHS Forum Proceedings), and holds several U.S. and Canadian patents for modular, one-piece
heat exchangers, cantilevered seating systems, and air vehicle control. His activities regarding dual-fan air vehicles, which
began in earnest in 1999 and led to the discovery of OAT and the formation of Gress Aerospace, date back to his
undergraduate years when he constructed a gyroscope in the vain hope of stabilizing such a vehicle. The vehicle was
never built and the gyroscope eventually was discarded. But, ironically, twenty-five years later the gyroscope idea found
its place; in the dual lift-fans themselves. Gary is the co-founder and majority shareholder of Gress Aerospace, Inc.
Robert Chachel - Technical Advisor & Strategic Oversight A Chemical Engineering graduate of the University of
Toronto, Bob has over 29 years experience working in the field of Canadian nuclear power plants with Ontario Power
Generation Inc. (formerly Ontario Hydro), primarily in the areas of providing support to daily plant operations,
developing tooling, procedures and training required for reactor maintenance activities, and assessing the impact and
feasibility of implementing potential system modifications on operations and nuclear safety. The last 9 years have been
spent in the regulatory and licensing regime surrounding nuclear facilities developing strategies and direction for
maintaining and enhancing regulatory compliance, defining regulatory certainty, and reducing regulatory burden, while
providing independent oversight on plant licensing activities.
